WHAT IS REIKI

Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) means the universal life force energy that resides within and around all living things.

Though it is an ancient hands-on healing technique, the system of Reiki we practice today was founded in Japan at the end of the 19th Century by Dr. Mikao Usui. It is gentle, non-invasive yet powerful healing technique that treats the whole person: Body, Mind, Emotions, and Spirit. I always say that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is – except when it comes to Reiki! Here are some reasons why:

  • Reiki always reduces stress and enhances the natural power of the body to heal itself
  • Reiki is always beneficial whether you are well or recovering from illness or trauma.
  • Reiki works in tandem with all other medical or therapeutic techniques including pharmaceuticals, herbs, etc., as it relieve side effects and promotes recovery.

There is no ailment too small or too large for Reiki. I have done Reiki for the common cold, stubbed toes, heartbreak, cancer, before and after surgery, Post-Traumatic Stress from the battlefield, and even on a case of the jitters before an important meeting.

While Reiki is an energetic healing modality, it is not a religion and does not interfere with religious teachings. There is nothing you must believe in — in fact — Reiki will work whether you believe in it or not! Most people report immediate beneficial effects that include deep relaxation, feelings of well-being and a glowing radiance.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A REIKI TREATMENT

I will want to know what your current physical/emotional health challenges are before we begin. I will ask you to become as comfortable as you can, removing shoes, eyeglasses, belts, cellphones, wallets, etc. Then you will relax fully clothed on a massage table. I will place my hands on different areas of your body for two to five minutes at a time, usually working from the feet up to the head.

You may become drowsy or fall asleep and that’s always a good thing! Or you may remember things you hadn’t thought of in a long time. Emotions may float up or you may simply rest and breathe. You can speak to me if you wish about what’s going on or we can remain silent—either way is fine. Whatever happens during your session is the right thing to happen for you!

After the session is over, you may want to take a few minutes to slowly come back to complete wakefulness. At this time, I usually share with you the things that have occurred to me during your session. Many people find this information extremely interesting and useful.

Within the next few days, you may experience a shift in your health, deeper sleep, interesting insights or dreams, or even just a general feeling of overall balance.
